Of course, according to Kanye himself, I’m not supposed to comment on anything he does, because of me being white and he is black. But for some strange reason I believe music is universal, so feel  like I can comment on any music, regardless of who it’s coming from. And I, in any case, try to spend as little time writing about music or artists I don’t like, so I can give my attention to those I do like instead.

So, why am I writing about Kanye West then? Good question, because I don’t really want to and this blog has nothing to do with his music.

As you know, Kanye turns to Twitter a lot to express, well, whatever comes to mind. And the world goes crazy over it. In the middle of his ranting and raving, he will drop a few bombshells of  admissions or just plain craziness, I think, intended to keep the press and social media lovers occupied for a few days. It does make for interesting topics at the coffee machine, I do admit that, but I really do wonder if his approach is really one that works for him in the long run.

They often say; “Even bad publicity is good publicity”. People are then so focused on just keeping their name in the news. Kanye is definitely doing that. It’s no coincidence that his Twitter rants are always timed with his music releases, events or anything else.

You can’t deny that it partially helped making the man famous. Even when you don’t know who he is, you probably know of him now. And his music apparently sells, as well as his clothes, but with all the madness around it, is that what he will be remembered for, do you think? I think, he’ll forever be remembered for his tweets.

You can already see the tell-tale signs: When he rants, no one is talking about his music anymore. Everyone gets completely caught up in the rant. What he said. Is it true? What does it mean? Is it about so and so? The press recently even started wondering if little Mrs. Kim is not getting fed up with it. Why isn’t she, BTW? She usually gets dragged into it.

Anyway, from all the things that he said, there’s one tweet that I know will get him in the end: “I’m tired of old people that have no connection with anything trying to comment in music!” Well Mr. West, you may want to think about this statement, because one day you are going to be one of them.

In the meantime, I still hope everyone will just ignore one rant of his, just one time to see what happens. Call it a social experiment.
